The Marble Run project was part of the Forces & Motion topic in Science. Marble Runs can be made on any scale with a few standard household materials. This was a great project for first graders to create and problem-solve as they laid out their marble tracks, tested them and made adjustments. The goal: To create a marble run that allows a marble to travel from top to bottom through a series of chutes.
Students had to figure out a way to make the marble travel through twists and turns, and to make sure that it traveled all the way through the model without flying out of the end! Using household materials, students could create a ‘mini marble run’ or a ‘mega marble run’. The children had a lot of fun demonstrating their models for their classmates, describing the materials they used to create them, how the pieces were joined as well as any problems they may have encountered in the construction process. The presentations (complete with demonstrations) have been a great deal of fun to watch and enjoy, also! |
