Dear Families,
Here are some ways in which you can help your child with homework:
Keep the emphasis on fun, if possible! Homework shouldn't become a 'drag' and if it does, please let me know! Dear Families,
Thank you so much for the school supplies that you have been sending in, both for our class and for some of the specials teachers. They are very much appreciated! Please note that I also have a 'wish list' which I will leave on this website all year. We usually run out of pencils, tissues and wipes first. We are already using our notebooks as interactive subject notebooks. Thank you also for sending in small puzzles for our indoor/rainy recess days (thankfully, we have only had ONE of those so far!). They will be used and loved throughout the year. Finally, THANK YOU for supporting your children with their homework and reading. In the second week of homework, we had a 100% turn-in! That is amazing! Keep reading, working on simple + and - math facts, and learning the sight words lists. Keep the sight word list (it is on colored paper) in the binder all the time, please. Students should be able to read each word without hesitation. We will assess the students on these lists from time to time, and once they show mastery, we will send home the next list. You may wish to make flash cards at home. Practice skip-counting in 2s, 5s and 10s also. This can be done in the car, while walking, etc! We are hoping that we will be in our new building in just a couple of weeks, so pretty soon, we will be packing everything up! This week we had a great discussion about what kind of classroom design the students would love to see, and what would be their 'perfect' learning space. I am hoping to incorporate some of the ideas, which included more 'soft rugs' and space to spread out. I am very impressed at the speed at which my students are acclimating to first grade. We are in 'full swing' now. I hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend, Mrs. Wagner. 1. but

Families, we have deliberately made this week's list super easy! This will hopefully give the students some confidence in taking the first spelling test this Friday. The students wrote the words into their homework packets on Monday morning. It is important that we start classes promptly.
Lunch is at 11.30 and from Tuesday to Friday we have recess at 11:30. On Monday recess is 12:30. Our Specials schedule is likely to change, but as of now it is as follows: Monday: Music, Computer and Art Tuesday: Art and PE Wednesday: Library and PE Thursday: Music Friday; Computer Hello Families!
We had a wonderful first day today! A quick way for me to add you to my email address book is for you to email me. If you could do this, it would be a great help: [email protected]. The children will need to bring their binders to school each day, please remind them to do so. Please check your child's behavior sheet each day and sign or initial it. It would be a HUGE help if you could put a note in your child's binder letting us know a). How they will be getting home (for example, we will pick him up/he will attend Drop n' Play; he takes the bus to afterschool care, etc). If you are sending LUNCH MONEY, please clearly label the envelope or baggy containing the money. Mrs. Payne, our assistant, will check and empty binders each morning. If you received my welcome packet but did not return the paperwork, please do so as soon as possible. Don't forget to send a small, healthy snack for the afternoon. We usually eat snack around 2pm, unless we are at a special. The dismissal was lengthy today but please don't worry, it will get better! Let me know if there is anything that I can do to help.
