Yesterday Sid showed off his guided reading project to Mr. Kandil. His project was on the theme of how technology has changed over time. He chose to focus on 'snail mail to email'. Sid gave his full presentation to Mr. Kandil in Mr. Kandil's office. Sid was very proud, and Mr. Kandil was very impressed.

Our class won the school competition for door decorating, as part of Red Ribbon week! Congratulations students!
We have been learning how to solve Sudoku problems in Math Club! It has been challenging but such fun. Why is Sudoku good for kids? Well, it exercises all sorts of skills; including logical reasoning, analytic and deductive thinking, and it also utilizes the left and right brain. Sudoku puzzles are definitely improving our skills in patience and persistence, also! Sometimes the puzzles can be frustrating, but the results when a problem is solved are very rewarding. The kids in my math club don’t give up easily! In fact, every week they have been asking for more puzzles to work on.
For our fantastic door decorations in honor of Red Ribbon Week, we went with the theme of anti-bullying. We read some stories and had a discussion about what type of qualities we need to possess to be the opposite of a bully; i.e. a BUDDY! If you happen to stop by school, check out our door display, as well as our wonderful thoughts about we demonstrate friendship.
Dear Parents, please download the attachment to view this week's activities for Red Ribbon Week at TMSA. Tomorrow (Tuesday) students can wear crazy socks.
Us! Yes, Class 1B won the 'Golden Sneaker' award from Coach McElroy for being the BEST class in PE! Congratulations to everyone!!!
Last Wednesday we all took part in a very exciting activity and helped to create and bake pumpkin bread. This activity allowed us to explore verbs (such as mix, stir, blend, mash and so on) in action! It was fun to see a project through from beginning to end, including waiting for 3 hours as the Crock Pot slowly baked the bread. The excitement mounted as the cooking time reached the end (we even worked on counting down in five minute intervals) and we had the chance to taste the bread. While this was happening, the children wrote a set of detailed, sequenced instructions on how to make the bread. Everyone had fun 'spicing' up their writing with action verbs!
We created ‘Fall Owl Puppets’ last week. They are very cute, as you can see. With this activity we were able to combine craft, math and writing skills. The children wrote instructions and recorded some math (tally marks and sums) related to the project. We took the entire afternoon to complete this project, but it was worth it! Check out the display on our hallway bulletin board.
Parents, you will have noticed some 'Decodables' in your child's binder this week and last week. We will have already read these books in class, but we ask that your child reads them again (and again and again!) at home, please. These books contain words that tie-in with spelling and sound patterns that we are studying in class. Some families like to keep a special basket at home to keep the Decodables in. 'Familiar Reading' is essential for growing readers, and it is helpful for students to reread texts in order to build fluency (and confidence). Don't forget, library books need to returned on Tuesday! I hope that you have a wonderful weekend. |
